A novel query is essentially a document that talks about your book. The way in which you draft the novel query will determine whether an agent will be interested in your manuscript or just a portion of it. A query is drafted when you are making a submission to an agent that has not been solicited. You can use the following tips on how to write a novel query as a guide.

Knowing your book inside out is step one on how to write a novel query. When an agent reads the first paragraph, he/she wants to know what the genre is. It is imperative that you succinctly list your genre as it will influence whether the agent accepts or rejects your book. Before you submit your novel, it is imperative that you first conduct background research. This will help you establish what genre the agent you will be sending your novel to handles. The best place to do this is the internet.

You must also get to the point as fast as possible. This is one other step on how to write a novel query. Your novel query should not be more than one page long. You should leave out the fluff and only concentrate on what makes your novel unique and interesting.

You can get information on how to write a novel query on the internet. Among the things you will learn is the correct format. The query has three parts; the hook, your bio as a writer and the closing. Understand that an agent will not look at your query twice if it is not in the right format. As much you may be tempted to refrain from talking about yourself. Focus more on the book instead. Remember to follow the set guidelines. When you fail to do this you risk having your book never getting published.

If even after going through the numerous resources that provide information on how to write a novel query you are unsure how to go about it, you must seek professional help. If you are a writer, there is a high chance you know of accomplished/published authors. You should consult them and seek their opinion on your novel query.
